Cash books, ledgers, wastebooks, and a letterbook detailing the business and personal accounts of Boston merchant Mark Pickard. Also recorded are transactions for the firm of Gregory and Pickard, Pickard's occasional partners James Scobie and Standfast Smith, and his wife Mary Lovell Pickard. Business records document Pickard's interest in voyages (mostly to Great Britain, Europe, and the Caribbean) of ships including the Arab (brig), Columbia (brig), Dolphin (schooner), Harriot (schooner), Helen (schooner), Henry (ship), Hope (ship), Jane (brig), Lydia (brig), Pilot (schooner), and Sally (brig). Accounts are for cargoes of dyes, foodstuffs, gunpowder, iron, textiles, whale oil, wine, etc. Also recorded are expenses for advertising, ship maintenance, tariffs, and wages. The Pickards' domestic accounts include expenses for animals, books, clothing, food, furniture, household goods, schooling, travel, and washing.
